The scope of the project included comprehensive construction of piping racks for heat removal from the Karolin EC II heat accumulator in Poznań:

  • Development of design plans and specifications,
  • Piping installation,
  • Supply of materials (valves, fittings, piping, and a flow meter),
  • Piping thermal insulation and paint finish,
  • Construction of pipe supports with spot footings.

The heat accumulator at EC II Karolin, owned by Veolia Energia Poznań S.A., is a cylindrical vessel with a height of 63 m high and a diameter of 24 m. It can hold 24,000 m3 of water, which is the capacity of eight Olympic-sized swimming pools. The water temperature in the heat accumulator is 98˚C.

Like a large thermal flask, the heat accumulator stores surplus heat, which is distributed when the heat demand of Poznań residents increases. This allows reducing the use of coal and oil in the energy generation process, along with a reduction of CO2 emission.
